Greetings!
I’ll be doing a Johnny Carson talk/book event in NYC on October 7th at 7pm for the Autumn Garden Society. Tickets are available here: https://www.autumngarden.org/event-details/mark-malkoff-love-johnny-carson
Also I’ll be at The Paley Center in NYC doing a Johnny Carson talk on November 4th at 4pm with curator Ron Simon. It’s free for Paley Members and included in General Admission. https://www.paleycenter.org/events/conversations-with-curator/johnny-carson-with-mark-malkoff
The below was signed to comedian Louie Anderson by Johnny following his sensational Carson debut in 1984. “To Louie- I think you should have a very successful career ahead of you- All good wishes. Johnny Carson”. This was Carson’s 1965 book Happiness Is a Dry Martini.
Below is an NBC Press Release from October 2, 1962 with the original credits for Carson’s Tonight Show. It’s fascinating how bare bones their operation was as opposed to modern late night comedy shows that have an enormous staff and crew. On Carson’s show there were only 3 writers, while Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show has 20 plus writers.
I was fortunate on the Carson Podcast to interview numerous Carson staff members featured on the below list including Perry Cross, Stan Zabka, Shelly Schultz, Perry Massey, Betty Bayer, and Marilyn Roberts.
